Top 10 Movie Car Chases

Car chases, eh? Cornerstone of any good movie.
Here's 10 of the best

Gene Hackman bashes his car to bits following a train in an all-time classic and has a real car crash with a man who had just left his house for work, unaware that filming was taking place. The producers paid for the damage and left the unplanned crash in for realism.

Not bad driving. For a woman.

San Francisco's hills, Lalo Schrifin's music, Steve McQueen's cool. A classic, even if he does seem to be going in circles, driving past the same cars in the background several times.

After working on Bullitt and The French Connection, Philip d'Antoni turned director and delivered yet another classic car chase.

William Friedkin attempts to match his earlier work on The French Connection in an underrated thriller and comes damn close. Great shots as they head down the freeway. The wrong way, naturally.

Not one to drink and drive, Bourne responsibly uses the vodka in his stolen car to sterilise his wounds and even takes the time to consult a map. Still wrecks his car, though.

Why smash a couple of cars when you can smash hundreds? One long, joyous demolition derby. You'll have to watch the film to see it, but in the meantime you can watch a speeded up version, set to the tune of Benny Hill.

8.
Smokey & the Bandit
Well, the whole thing is pretty much a chase, but gains extra marks for Jackie Gleason and for Burt's moustache. Watch it here.

Okay, it's more of a test drive than a chase, but they don't allow you to do this down the local car showroom.

10. Taxi
Danny DeVito and Andy Kaufman in a race to the death.....excuse me a moment.......well, the voice in my earpiece tells me I've been misinformed. It's actually a scene from a French action film. Still good, though.

Exciting stuff, eh? Reminds me of the time I robbed that bank. But movie chases don't always have to involve cars. Check out this list of Top 10 Movie Chases (not including cars).
